Fernando Trueba‘s beautiful film rendition of the legendary concert that brought two very distinctive performers together on the same stage. On June 22, 2003, in Valldemossa’s Costa Nord cultural center in Mallorca, Bebo Valdés and Diego el Cigala joined forces to create a fusion of flamenco and Cuban music through an exquisite selection of well-known classics from the popular Iberoamerican repertoire. The intimate setting and extraordinary spiritual bonding between the artists informed the performance so profoundly that Spanish poet Ángel González commented: “Bebo y Cigala have created such an extraordinary amalgam that the Cuban song sounds like cante, and vice-versa.” The concert led to the recording of the Grammy-award winning CD, Lágrimas Negras.
