The New York City book launch of Cuando salí de Cuba: Los niños de Madrid, by Remberto and María Luisa Pérez, detailing a virtually unrecorded event in the early years of the Cuban Revolution. Although much has been written of the Pedro Pan children’s exodus (1961-1962), when more than 14,000 minors left for the United States, little is known about the experience of more than 1000 Cuban children (mostly boys) who left for Spain between 1966 and 1970, under the protection of the Franciscan friar Antonio Caminas.
Co-author María Luisa Pérez will be joined by José Moya and Damián de Armas, who were both part of that exodus and will share their personal testimony.
This event is part of our CreateNYC Language Access Series on Cuban History, Art, and Literature. It will be held in Spanish.
