The third of three spring workshops on the legacy and significance of the work of Lydia Cabrera, a pioneer ethnographer of Cuba’s African culture, on the 120th anniversary of her birth. Each workshop will be held in a private home and will be open to members only, with pre-registration required. A reading list will be provided to those attending.
This workshop will be led by artist Aurora De Armendi, who will explore Cabrera’s interest in the evolution of the colonial Cuban home, dating to her early twenties. The workshop will review Cabrera’s project of identifying a distinct Cuban style in the home space, both exterior and interior, through her art collection of mirrors, silver objects and lamps, as well as paintings from Landaluze and Romañach.
