Siempre en mi corazón / Always in My Heart

Friday, April 5, 2013 @ 8 pm

A gala concert featuring the songs of Ernesto Lecuona, on the 50th anniversary year of his death. Cuba’s most prolific composer, Lecuona wrote over 600 pieces, and his catalogue spans several genres, including piano pieces, songs, zarzuelas, movie scores, and works for piano and orchestra. Also an outstanding pianist, his influence on Latin American music cannot be understated. Lecuona died in exile in 1963. This commemorative gala, under the artistic direction of maestro Pablo Zinger, will include many of his most famous songs—including romantic arias, ritmos antiguos, pregones, boleros, congas and rumbas—as well as lesser known pieces, such as his musicalization of poems by José Martí and Juana de Ibarbourou.

With an international cast of singers from Cuba, Puerto Rico,
Mexico, Spain and the United States:
Amaya Arberas, Brenda Feliciano, Virginia Herrera (sopranos)
Mariajesús Valdés (mezzo soprano) Victor Khodadad (tenor)
Ernesto TresPalacios (baritone) and Jorge Ocasio (bass)

Pablo Zinger is an Uruguayan-born New Yorker widely known as a conductor, pianist, writer, composer, arranger, lecturer and narrator. He has conducted and played with orchestras, singers and chamber groups throughout the Americas and Europe, and has shared the stage with singers and musicians of world renown, including Plácido Domingo at Washington’s Constitution Hall, and Paquito D’Rivera at Carnegie Hall. As a sideline, Mr. Zinger has written for The New York Times, Opera News, Guitar Review and Classical Singer, and has lectured for The New York Philharmonic.
