The CCCNY caps its Fall Season with a special production by Repertorio Español of Exquisita Agonía (Exquisite Agony), the latest work by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Nilo Cruz. In this delicate but relentless story, Cruz explores a middle-aged woman’s obsessive quest to find fragments of love in a young man who is given the gift of life when he receives a new heart. Exquisite Agony is a moving play of great warmth about the survival of a modern family who must confront the past in order to move forward.
Cast: Luz Nicolas, German Jamarillo, Hannia Guillen, Gonzalo Trigueros, Gilberto Diaz, and Pedro de Leon
Directed by José Zayas
Running time: 2 hrs. Intermission: 15 min.
After the performance the CCCNY will pay special recognition to directors René Buch and the late Gilberto Zaldívar, founders of Repertorio Español in 1968, for their pioneering role in the promotion and development of New York City’s premiere Spanish-language theater company. The ceremony will be followed by a Q&A with the director and members of the cast, and a Christmas reception with wine and hors d’oeuvres.
The play will be performed in Spanish with subtitles in English via Simultext ® In-Seat Captioning System.
