Kaufman Music Center & the Cuban Cultural Center of New York present a two-piano program featuring the Golden Era of Cuban music
“It is never about showing off what they can do technically, but rather about bringing the listener into the meaning of the music. They are real virtuosos of their instrument not only because of their rock solid performances, but because of their considerable intelligence, sensitivity, intense feeling and contagious joy.”
– The New York Times
From the sensuality and seductive melodies of the bolero, to the exotic and complex rhythms of the Mambo and Cha Cha, Cuba’s rich musical heritage spans centuries and has influenced most popular music of our time. Virtuoso pianists and Cuban brothers Orlay Alonso and Orlando Alonso present Cuban Classics, an immersive experience that places the audience at the center of the “Golden Era” of Cuban music and entertainment, from the 1940s and 1950s, featuring pieces from the popular and classical repertoire in arrangements for two pianos. This interactive show includes a variety of Cuban styles, such as Mambo, Cha Cha, Salsa, Bolero, Son, Danzón and Conga, and includes works by Celia Cruz, Ernesto Lecuona, Ignacio Cervantes, Miguel Faílde and Pérez Prado, among other composers. Never before has Cuban music been presented in such a superb style!
