An incisive look at a generation of Cuban writers coming of age during Cuba’s Soviet period, today scattered in different parts of the world. The talk will be given by one of its exponents, Gleyvis Coro Montanet. With an introduction by literary critic Mabel Cuesta, Associate Professor of U.S. Latino and Caribbean History at the Department of Hispanic Studies at the University of Houston. Prof. Cuesta will also moderate a Q&A following the presentation.

Poet and narrator Gleyvis Coro Montanet (Pinar del Río, Cuba, 1974) is a college profesor. She holds a Ph.D. in Education and is an expert in curricular integration of new technologies. She also holds a degree in Odontology. She was awarded the UNEAC prize for novel (2006) and the prize for literary criticism (2007) in Cuba, and has received international recognition for her short stories and poetry as well. She is the author of the books of poems Aguardando al guardabosque (Ediciones Loynaz, 2006), Jaulas (Letras Cubanas, 2010), and the novel La burbuja (Unión, 2007). Since 2009 she resides in Spain, where she has published Lejos de Casa (Memoria lírica del problema cubano) (Cristal de Agua, 2018), Mujer, aparta de mí ese smartphone (Gata Encerrada, 2020) and Cien días en cuarentena (Gata Encerrada, 2021). Her work has appeared in important literary journals and anthologies in both Cuba and Spain.
