A special screening of Lilo Vilaplana‘s riveting new release, Plantados. Based on true stories, the film narrates the most horrible tortures the Castro regime imposed on the political prisoners who rejected the reeducation and indoctrination plans offered by the government in exchange for better treatment and shorter sentences.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director, moderated by Perla Rozencvaig, head of the CCCNY Cinema Program. In Spanish, with English subtitles.
This event is part of our CreateNYC Language Access Series on Cuban History, Art, and Literature. The Q&A will be bilingual.

Award-winning director Lilo Vilaplana began his career in his native Cuba as a a screenwriter and director of the children’s live weekly program “Dando Vueltas” from 1991 to 1997, after which he settled in Colombia. In Colombia he worked as creative for Film and TV Cine on several projects produced by FoxTelecolombia, achieving great recognition as director of the series “El Capo”. He has directed several shorts and feature films produced by americatevé and Vilaplana Films. Plantados, his latest film, based on true stories, has received great critical acclaim for its groundbreaking historical research and authenticity.
