By popular demand, the CCCNY brings back The Alonso Brothers, and this time in a totally new immersive experience, Havanesque, placing the audience at the center of the greatest time in the history of Cuban music. Cuban-American pianists Orlay and Orlando Alonso have charmed audiences on stages around the world with their elegant takes on piano classics. A colorful take on the classics of the 1930s through the 1960s, Havanesque features original arrangements in a variety of genres and styles — from the seductive melodies of the bolero, son and danzón, to the exotic and intricate rhythms of the mambo, cha-cha-chá, salsa and conga. With fresh and surprising renditions of familiar favorites like Leonard Bernstein’s “Mambo” from West Side Story and “Oye Cómo Va” by the legendary Tito Puente, The Alonso Brothers create a vivid soundscape that honors and celebrates Cuba’s diverse culture and rich, yet complex history. Havanesque marks a triumphant return to their roots, paying homage to the golden age of Cuban music. Never before have the classics been presented in such vibrancy and scale.
“It is never about showing off what they can do technically, but rather about bringing the listener into the meaning of the music. They are real virtuosos of their instrument not only because of their rock solid performances, but because of their considerable intelligence, sensitivity, intense feeling and contagious joy.” – The New York Times

Meet the Alonso Brothers
Dazzling audiences with their artistic exuberance and expression, virtuoso pianists Orlando Alonso and Orlay Alonso have been playing since they were children growing up in Cuba. Both attended the National School of the Arts in Havana and earned degrees from Yale University, Ohio State, Mannes and Manhattan School of Music. After successful solo ventures, the brothers have teamed up to pay homage to their beloved homeland. As a duo, The Alonso Brothers bring their own signature styles to the stage and complement one another in their approach to performing and recording. “We have tremendous respect for each other’s unique musical interpretations. Working together allows us to play the music we love, to connect with our heritage, and to build a future together as pianists and brothers” says Orlay. Applauded for their emotive gifts, elegance, and polish, The Alonso Brothers shine with a charisma and stage presence that is truly timeless.
