A special recital in honor of Aurelio de la Vega (1925-2022), who passed away early this year. Considered one of the greatest exponents of contemporary art music. de la Vega wrote numerous works in many forms and media and, from the early 1960s, was an active force on the U.S. musical scene. Many of his compositions are published and recorded, and the majority of them are played constantly nationally and internationally. His music and aesthetic ideas have been commented upon and analyzed in books, newspapers and reviews throughout the United States, Europe, and Latin America. Among his numerous recognitions is the coveted Friedheim Award of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, bestowed in 1978. In 2012 he was the recipient of the Ignacio Cervantes Medal, the CCCNY’s lifetime achievement award for excellence in classical music.
The recital will feature pianist Martha Marchena, soprano Anne Marie Ketchum de la Vega, cellist Marisol Espada, and clarinetist Juan Ruiz.
