ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Cristy Arias was born with the gift of music. Ever since she was four, she astounded those who would hear her sing. Her father, a Cuban architect, would whistle or sing to her his favorite songs from their beloved Cuba, as well as hit songs from Broadway musicals, and she would sing them back to him with amazing fidelity. In 1960 her parents fled the Cuban Communist regime taking Cristy and her sister Celia to freedom in Miami and two years later to Connecticut. When Cristy was ten years old, she moved with her family to Puerto Rico. During her teen years on the beautiful Caribbean Island, she began her musical career recording jingles for TV and Radio commercials. She was also cast as Liza Doolittle in a local production of “My Fair Lady” and soon after as Queen Guinevere in “Camelot”. Now living in Miami with her family, Cristy has since performed in various cities in the U.S. and abroad, delighting audiences wherever she goes. This versatile artist has produced eight CD’s, and with her incomparable style, she can enchant the most sophisticated zarzuela enthusiasts as well as the lovers of romantic ballads. Her voice covers a wide range of tone and emotion and she never fails to touch the heart of her audience. This concert marks her New York City debut.

Cuban born pianist Jorge Emilio Pis‘s passion for music was evident at the early age of 4. He started his professional career in The National School of Arts in Havana and completed his studies at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, where he received a Master’s degree in piano performance and chamber music accompaniment graduating  with honors. Jorge Emilio has performed as a soloist, vocal accompanist, and with renowned orchestras in his native Cuba, Europe, the US, and other countries. A recipient of numerous awards, his extensive repertoire encompasses diverse music genres from classical to contemporary, and his own compositions. An accomplished concert pianist of technical brilliance, a skillful conductor with a marked appeal to engage the audience,  and an inspiring educator, Jorge Emilio conveys a unique flare that is motivating and highly effective in enhancing the musicians’ performance, evident through consistent memorable concerts. Jorge Emilio is currently the Music Director at Saint Augustine Catholic Church in Coral Gables, FL, and the enthusiastic Conductor of the Saint Augustine Music Ministry Ensemble.

Celia Miranda was born in Havana, Cuba. From early childhood she discovered a passion for singing, and at the age of 11 learned to play the guitar. She derived great pleasure from entertaining family and friends, and soon started teaching her younger sister Cristy to sing in harmony and do beautiful duets. In 1960 the singer moved with her family to the United States and later to Puerto Rico where she has been living for many years. In this enchanted island, Celia began her studies in Music Theory and Voice at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music. She was a disciple of the distinguished Puerto Rican soprano Rina de Toledo. Celia has performed in numerous concerts and has been invited repeatedly as the featured guest performer at the French Consulate of Puerto Rico.  She also sings regularly at wedding ceremonies and at diverse cultural events.  She is a retired teacher from the TASIS School of Dorado in Puerto Rico. The artist has recorded several CD’s, her most popular being “Un camino mejor,” of her own authorship.
